How long has Joni’s Child Care & Preschool been in business?

Joni’s Child Care & Preschool was first opened in 1994 on Route 4 in Farmington, CT. It quickly expanded at that site and then to 4 additional centers in Connecticut located in Burlington, Canton, Farmington and Hartford. Eventually the Route 4 center was relocated to its current site on East View Drive in Farmington, CT.
Is there actually a “Joni”?

Yes! Joni Schneider is a resident of Harwinton, CT, and former resident of Avon, CT. She wanted to open a “nice little daycare center that emphasized strong academics, social skills and manners." She has always believed that ”parents have the right to parent” and that her centers exist to help that process. Over the years, Joni has been joined by two daughters, two sons and her husband in the expansion and running of the Joni’s programs. All seven of her grandchildren have attended Joni’s programs. She continues to be actively involved with all of the centers. She knows the staff members, many of the families in our programs and nearly all of the children. She is always available to offer advice, address concerns and of course to accept compliments.
Are you licensed?

Yes. All Joni’s Child Care & Preschool centers are licensed in good standing with the State of Connecticut. They receive regular inspections from the respective licensing agents and are often complimented for the quality that is evident each day.
Are the Joni’s Child Care & Preschool programs accredited?

Yes. All 5 of the Joni’s Child Care & Preschool programs are accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This is a rigorous set of standards beyond those required by the State of Connecticut. A nationally trained team of inspectors spend several days in each program reviewing all aspects of the curriculum, teacher qualifications, interactions, communications and management. It takes several years to complete the accreditation process and then must be maintained through annual reporting systems, unannounced visits and emerging standards.
My schedule changes frequently. Am I required to pay for a full week of attendance if I don’t need it?

The Joni’s Child Care & Preschool programs are extremely popular with professionals who work with rotating schedules. Nurses, firefighters, pharmacists and many other professionals all benefit from our flexible scheduling option. Simply provide an advanced copy of your upcoming schedule. Then you will be required to pay only for those scheduled days.
What if my schedule changes and I need additional care?

Simply give us a call. If we have availability on any given day, we are happy to have your child join us for the extra time. You would pay for the extra time as used at the full or half day rate.
Do you offer any vacation time for families?

Yes. Each family is allotted the equivalent of two weeks of attendance as vacation time. This means that a full-time enrollee would have 10 days each calendar year to use for vacation without paying the center to hold the space. Likewise, an enrollee who attends 3 days per week would have 6 days per calendar year to use this way. Vacation days may be used one day at a time or all at once.
I am a teacher. Are there any special arrangements for my summer schedule?

Yes. Teachers often choose to take extended time off during the summers according to their public school calendars and can be anxious about ensuring their child’s position in the fall. Joni’s Child Care & Preschool does not require any fees or payments during these summer leaves of absence. Simply provide us with a written departure and return date for our scheduling purposes. In return for this peace of mind, these families give up the traditional vacation arrangement that our other families utilize. For example, regular tuition would be paid for the winter or spring breaks, regardless of attendance.
Do you offer any special programs for my child?

Yes, many of the Joni’s programs offer special, extracurricular activities for the children. Computer instruction, Spanish, sign-language and other programs are regular parts of the curriculum for varied age groups at no addition costs. Swim lessons, soccer, martial arts and other activities are available at select centers at a separate, additional charge.
My child has allergies. Are you a “Peanut Free” center?

The Joni’s Child Care & Preschool programs are NOT “peanut-free” environments. Through the years, we have learned that these words do not provide guarantees against contamination and can cause a false sense of security. Teachers and managers accept responsibility for ensuring the health and safety of all of our children, including those with a wide variety of allergies. This includes full knowledge of a child’s allergies, inspection of all food items brought into the program and close supervision of all meals. Allergy information is clearly posted in a child’s classroom, staff are trained in reading package labels and the administration of emergency medications.
How do you handle discipline in your program?

The staff at Joni’s Child Care & Preschool believe that consistent and active involvement with the children results in a limited need for actual discipline. However, when a child acts impulsively or allows emotions and/or energies to become extreme, a brief time-out period may be used to assist the child in re-gaining personal control. When another child is impacted by these behaviors, time-outs are followed by discussions, apologies and possibly a change of activities. Corporal, frightening or humiliating punishment is never allowed. Food will never be withheld as a form of discipline.
What are the qualifications of your teachers?

Joni’s Child Care & Preschool seeks and hires teachers who demonstrate a variety of backgrounds, temperaments, educations and experiences. Most of our teachers either have or are actively seeking formal degrees in the field of education. Joni’s Child Care & Preschool conducts reference and background checks on all teachers upon hire.
What communication methods do you use?

Joni’s Child Care & Preschool seeks to engage parents at ever step. We communicate with our parents via phone, email and through our app. What did your child do today? You will see photos, videos of your child's day, daily reports keep you informed of the daily activities and learning experiences while you are at work.
I love your center and have encouraged my friends to use you too. Do you reward me for my endorsement?

We appreciate your good word! No one appreciates how difficult the child care decision can be better than a parent who has been there. When you refer a new family to one of our Joni’s programs and they decide to enroll, you receive a week of tuition FREE. It is our small way of saying “Thank You” and we hope to say it often.
How do I enroll in Joni’s Child Care & Preschool?

Enrollment paperwork can be obtained during your visit to one of our centers, on our website or via traditional mail. This paperwork includes a Registration Form, a Child Physical form for your doctor, and varied other age-specific materials. We will work with you to schedule any trial days and your child’s ultimate start date. We look forward to working with you soon!
