Language: Daily exposure to literature is offered through stories, poems, music and conversation. Opportunities are available throughout the day for individual and group reading, writing and free art. Each child is encouraged to express their feelings and their needs and to respect the feelings of others.
Math: Each day includes a combination of formal and informal math concepts including number sequencing and recognition, sorting and graphing, measuring and recording. Computers are available throughout the day for formal instruction and individual exploration.
Science: Exploring, questioning and experimenting all mean discovering the joys of science. Teachers seek to introduce children to the world around us through observation of plants and animals, the environment, our human bodies and outer space.
Art: Children use various mediums to express their personal ideas and creative talents. The development of fine and gross motor skills, and the confidence to create and share, all help to establish the foundations of a strong learner.
Social Concepts: Sharing, self-help and the ability to solve problems with words and redirection are all necessary for daily function in today's world. Children learn appropriate expression of feelings, needs and desires. Organized and spontaneous activities teach responsibility for one's self and actions. Children learn respect for themselves, others and their environment.
Cognitive Development: Children are exposed to the types of information they will experience in kindergarten and grade school. Review of colors, shapes, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, letter recognition, topical discussions and story times all contribute to building a comfort with formal learning, increased attention span and turn taking.
Parents are invited to participate in daily activities, special days and events, sharing of jobs and hobbies and chaperoning field trips.
